004: Supporting a Loved One Through a Serious Health Condition w/Dori Martin

TODAY’S GUEST

Dori Martin is a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, host of the Off the Medical Grid podcast, a massage therapist and health educator, and founder of Optimal Health by Design. After Dori’s husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer and exhausted medical interventions with no success, she and her husband stepped outside of the medical model of care and found an amazing new paradigm of building health. Her husband found ways to thrive after experiencing the benefit of functional and alternative solutions, and so, inspired with hope and new solutions for building health, Dori set out on a mission to get people to look "off the medical grid," by introducing the amazing and proven benefits of the functional method of building health and adding lifestyle adjustments to heal from chronic and even terminal disease.

TODAY’S EPISODE

In today’s episode, I talk with Dori Martin about supporting a loved one through a serious health condition. I’ve gotten to know Dori through this journey of starting a podcast and have discovered that she and I share many interests and so I’m really excited to have her on the show!

When Dori was engaged, her fiance Martin, who is now her husband, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and told by the doctors to get his affairs in order because they weren’t going to be able to help him. This started Dori and her husband on a journey of exploring alternative treatments through the holistic and functional models of health. Three years after his diagnosis, Martin is currently doing well and continuing to heal and so Dori shares with us what her role in this journey has been, the importance of self-care when caring for a loved one, the role of mindset in healing, and the important role alternative healing can play when facing a serious, terminal or chronic illness.

Dawn and I also discuss what she went through when her 26 year-old daughter was diagnosed with a serious and chronic condition. Having a seriously ill child is every parent’s worst fear, and Dawn tell us how she made it through this difficult time during her daughter’s diagnosis and long recovery.

At some point, many of us might be face a similar situation with a parent, a spouse, or a friend and so I hope what Dawn and Dori have to say about this topic will be helpful to you. I’d love to hear from you, so please visit the show’s website at new30podcast.com and let me know if you’re currently going through a similar journey with a loved-one or just to say hello and introduce yourself.
